education
Remington attended the University of Southern California where she studied Psychology and Communication. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa honors. As a dedicated Trojan, she later went on to obtain her Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (M.M.F.T.) degree from USC.
Background
Initially, Remington worked as a school counselor for three years. She facilitated individualized therapy, classroom-based interventions, and grade level presentations. Here, Remington learned about the critical connection between students' mental health and their ability to effectively take advantage of opportunities to learn and grow.
Backed in Neuroscience
With an interest in mindfulness and a desire to root her therapeutic skills in neuroscience, Remington pursued an associate role under the direction of Deena Margolin, LMFT, of Big Little Feelings. While under Deena Margolin’s direction, Remington learned the science and relationship between “the mind, emotions, brain functioning, and the child’s system.” Applying this science to a practice, Remington then built out creative and concrete tools (tools that develop insight, build empathy, cultivate compassion, reinforce resilience, and construct healthy communication) from Deena’s original approach. Remington applies these tools in her private practice and teaches these interventions to her associates and colleagues. Remington & a colleague will soon distribute these creative tools as a teaching course to associates and licensed professionals.
research
Remington researched at UCLA under the direction of Dr. Liz Laugeson of the UCLA PEERS® Clinic. While researching, Remington became a Certified PEERS® Provider implementing evidence-based social skills interventions into her therapeutic practice. The goal of these interventions is to help children, adolescents and young adults with ASD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other social and behavioral disorders, understand social interactions, attune to other’s unique needs, and find a safe space to grow and belong.
