education

Remington attended the University of Southern California where she studied Psychology and Communication. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa honors. As a dedicated Trojan, she later went on to obtain her Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (M.M.F.T.) degree from USC.

Background

Remington began her career as a school counselor, serving for three years in this role. She provided individualized therapy, implemented classroom-based interventions, and delivered grade-level presentations. Here, Remington learned about the critical connection between students' mental health and their ability to effectively take advantage of opportunities to learn and grow.

Backed in Neuroscience

Driven by a passion for mindfulness and a commitment to grounding her therapeutic skills in neuroscience, Remington pursued an associate role under the guidance of Deena Margolin, LMFT, of Big Little Feelings. Under Margolin’s mentorship, she gained a deep understanding of the scientific interplay between the “the mind, emotions, brain functioning, and the child’s system.” Building on this foundation, Remington developed innovative tools grounded in evidence-based practices that naturally employ the child’s learning language: play. Her creative interventions are built to foster insight, empathy, compassion, resilience, and healthy communication; all foundations of Margolin’s original approach. Now, Remington integrates these tools into her own private practice and teaches her associates how to incorporate said tools into their therapeutic approaches.

In collaboration with a colleague, Remington will soon launch a professional development course to equip associates and licensed professionals with these effective therapeutic interventions.

research

Remington researched at UCLA under the direction of Dr. Liz Laugeson of the UCLA PEERS® Clinic. While researching, Remington became a Certified PEERS® Provider for Adolescents (LA/OC) and Young Adults (LA/OC) and now implements these evidence-based social skills interventions into her therapeutic practices. The goal of these interventions is to help children, adolescents and young adults with ASD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other social and behavioral disorders, understand social interactions, attune to other’s unique needs, and find a safe space to grow and belong.
